The property tax for ordinary detached houses is 0.75% of the property's assessed value, up to a maximum amount. About half of all single-family home owners pay the maximum amount, which is also increased every year.
In 2008, the state property tax was removed for ordinary detached houses and replaced by a municipal property tax.
But note that there are several exceptions, for example, newly built residential buildings are exempt from property tax during the first five years. Undeveloped land pays a state property tax. There is also a cap of 4 percent of income for pensioners.
